History of Delhi Zoological Park
In the year of 1951, just after the independence of India, Idea of Zoo was suggested at the meeting. After the gap of 8 years, Delhi Zoo opened in the year of 1959 in sprawling areas of 176 acres. Multiple lakes, pathways, enclosures, citadel, green islands, etc. made in the Zoo complex. Outer walls of old fort can be seen from the Zoo.
Animals in Delhi Zoo
The zoo was initially started with little animals and count of animals are stated along with the year. Currently, Delhi Zoo has more than 1300 animals and birds of 130+ species along with endangered species. Some of the animals are the superstars of the Zoo who attracts large crowd on all the days. White Tiger, Vijay is one of them, he killed a man who jumps in his enclosure. Bengal tiger, lion, Indian rhinoceros, Emu, Hippopotamus, Black Bear, Gaur, Leopard, Jaguar, Crocodile, Black buck and colorful birds are the main animals which attract maximum crowd.
Delhi Zoo Timings
Delhi zoo entry time and closing time is different as per the season. Chidiyaghar winter timings are 9:30 AM to 4:00 PM and summer timings are 9:00 AM to 4:30 PM. Delhi Zoo closing day is every Friday and it also remains closed on national holidays. So visitors are advised to plan accordingly as per the zoo timing.
Delhi Zoo Entry Fee / Tickets Price
Delhi zoo tickets are divided into multiple denominations for Indian and foreigners. Concessional tickets are available for students and senior citizens. Entrance for Indian adults is 40 Rs per head and Children above 3 feet height need to pay 20 Rs for the entry. Similarly foreigners ticket prices are 200 and children’s ticket price is 100 Rs. Filming is chargeable and battery operated vehicles are also available in the zoo. Cloakroom and wheelchairs are also available for the convenience of visitors. How to Reach Delhi Zoo
Delhi zoo is located in central Delhi and it is very well connected with rest of Delhi. Visitors can reach here via car, bike, cab, auto, city bus and Delhi Metro. Delhi Zoo nearest metro station is Pragati Maidan of Blue line. This station is just 2 Km from here and the rest of the distance can be covered via bus or auto. Auto Rickshaw generally charges 30 to 40 rose from the metro station. The Delhi Zoo bus stand is located outside the Delhi Zoo.
Delhi Zoo Visitors Facility
All basic amenities are available outside and inside the zoo for the visitors to make their visit pleasant. Visitors vehicle parking is available outside the zoo and it can accommodate all types of vehicles including car, two wheelers, cycles, tourist and school buses, etc. Parking charges are nominal as per the place. Some local food joints are situated outside the zoo, however, the food quality is not up to the mark. A small canteen and some food joint are also situated in the complex, which provides light snacks and drinks. Free Drinking water outlets and dustbin are installed inside the zoo. Cloakroom for depositing unnecessary and prohibited items, wheelchairs and battery operated carts are also available.
